Time to Design!

Hey all!

Welcome back to my blog! I hope you all are having a wonderful week! This week I got to formulate my new cleanser with Kerwin at the lab, and we are making a clay cleanser! Woohoo!

This clay cleanser will double as a clay mask! I was doing a bunch of research this week, and a lot of 'competition' are not natural but they double as masks. This cleanser and my lip treatment product are part of the same brand.... Humble Me! This is my brand name that I have created and my target market is young adults to mid-age adults looking for luxurious, all natural skin care products that work. If I were to launch this brand, I would want to be in stores from Whole Foods, to Sprouts, to Sephora. Upscale, but not in dermatology offices.

The next step for me with my lip treatment is getting the packaging, and it is a lot! Designing, pricing, and making sure it fits in regulation is hard especially for small products. Below are some designs I have come up with and you will see which I will end up with in a couple weeks, or even at my SRP presentation if you want to come and see them in person too!

Keep looking for more updates, and I will keep you all in the loop! Have a wonderful week!

  1. Hi Lauren! Your designs look so nice! I love your brand name, too! So cute! You mentioned that some of us may be able to see the products in person at your presentation; do you know when that would be?
Also, what color will your clay cleanser be? Charcoal is all the hype right now. Will you be including it in your mask formula?
Thank you, and good luck on your cleanser and designs!

    1. Hey Divya! Thank you! Yes! For sure, my presentation is on May 6th at 1:40pm! I would love to see you there if you can make it!

Right now my cleanser is a light pink/brown, and all the focus is on the clay elements, but the color blends in with my skin tone, so I may make it a different color. You're so right! Charcoal is a big hit right now, but I'm sticking with the clay as the main part since it has so many amazing properties! Thank you!

  2. Hi Lauren! I really like the name "Humble me!" Even from hearing the name you get this sort of "this is a natural product" vibe, which is great. Do you know what type of clay you will be using? There is this really cool stuff called bentonite clay that helps clean your pores and calms the skin. Also, do you think you will add a natural fragrance or essential oil to your cleanser? Thanks and good luck!

    1. Hey Olivia! Thank you! Ah that's super awesome! And I am using bentonite clay!! Woohoo that's so cool that you know what it is and it's great properties!

Right now, I'm not adding a fragrance since it has an earthy smell, not in a bad way though, and I don't want to add too much more that could have the potential of clogging pores.

  3. Hey Lauren! I love the name you chose, it's original and interesting! You said you were making a clay cleanser- is there a particular reason you chose clay? As in, are some clays more effective in cleaning and rejuvenating skin than other products? If so, that'd make your products even more unique, especially since they're all-natural- definitely something I'd expect to see in high-end stores!

    1. Hey Annalise! Thank you! Yes, I chose bentonite clay exactly for the reasons Olivia said previously that it is great at deep cleansing the pores and leveling the skin to a balance. Thank you for commenting!

  4. Nice Lauren! Not many people get to design and plan for their own product, let alone in High School. Why might this product be better for younger to mid age adults rather than much older ones?

    1. Hey Spencer! Thanks! It's such a wonderful opportunity and I'm so thankful for it! Both my products are great for all ages since they work on getting the skin healthy again whether that's by deeply hydrating or cleansing the pores and regulating oil levels. The cleanser might be more targeted towards younger adults because they tend to struggle with changing levels of oil in their skin a bit more than adults. :D

  5. Hey Lauren! Your brand name sounds very natural yet effective and high-end, and it seems like it would fit very well in a Sephora-like environment! Is there any reason you would not want to launch this branch in dermatology offices? As in, is it due to the brand name and its intended audience, or because your cleanser is a clay mask/intended for luxury, or some other reason? Thank you!

    1. Hey Esha, thank you! Launching in dermatology offices is a completely different ball-park which involves sales reps and customers must go to their physician which would limit my market, and I want as many people to use awesome products which is why I would keep it more consumer based. My product is definitely on the higher end especially with all the ingredients in it, but my goal would to be to create it and keep it affordable for the general public! Thanks Esha!

  6. Hi Lauren.
The design looks great so far, and I thought your brand name was very unique! I am so excited to be able to see your product in stores and know that I got to follow your journey. Is there a specific reason you chose to do clay over a regular cleanser? And can the clay cleanser be used everyday? Thank you. I look forward to reading more!

    1. Hi Zafeerah! Thank you! Clay is deep cleansing and it helps regulate oil production which is what I wanted in a product. The cleanser can be used everyday, and when used as a leave on mask, I would only use it once per week as a mask. Thank you!

  7. Wow, designs look super detailed! Have you encountered any major issues designing the the clay mask that you didn't encounter when designing the lip product?

    1. Hey Justin! For sure, cleansers are so much harder than lip products which just start as a base so getting the right combo would have been so so much harder if Kerwin wasn't helping me so much.

  8. Hey Lauren! I think it is super cool that you are able to fully conceptualize your product and have thought about all the details such as where you would want it to be sold!

  9. Halt Lauren! I love the name you came up with as it is very creative and original! I have a few questions on your cleanser. What clay will you be using in the cleanser? Also what color will it be? Also are you going to sell your cleanser and lip balm? If you are, sign me up! Thanks and I hope that you continue to be successful in your project!

    1. Hey Christina! Thank you! I'm using bentonite clay which is great for deep cleansing, and I'm keeping it a warm neutral tone somewhere around a pink/brown. It would be unethical for me to sell my products especially because I haven't done testing on them, but I'm hoping to give samples out at my presentation on May 6th if you want to come! Thank you for your support!

  10. Hi Lauren! I think that name is absolutely perfect; I automatically got a sense that it was going to be a natural product. Your design plans look great too! As far as the cleanser/mask, do you plan to have it provide a specific treatment, like pore cleansing, moisturizing, etc., or is it more of a general cleanser? Also, do you plan to fragrance it at all, with natural ingredients of course?

    1. Hey Bobby! Thank you! My cleanser is a targeted oil regulator/ sebum control which I think is so key because we are constantly putting more and more products on our faces but why not just go back to the basics for controlling oil? I am not going to fragrance my cleanser, just because I like the earthy scent it has right now, and not many scents go with a pink/ brown color, but fragrance free is also a great plus in the market too! Thank you for your interest!
